after the battering ram

i spent my first decades of life asleep. i was a young adult working with the survival skills of a child. finally, survival wasn’t enough, i wanted more, so i found a therapist.

i didn’t know i had so many walls, i didn’t know i was asleep until my therapist tested my stubborn stones.

many times i would reflect on the work we did and how it felt like a small part of my world had crumbled to reveal vast more space.

my actual experience was never as dramatic as a battering ram, but looking back on the journey to now, this is how it lives in my head.
