this is a family portrait.
like everyone, i want to be seen. but what this child has just recently learned is that being seen is an agreement, it is a relationship, it’s a silent conversation.
and you can’t really be seen unless you turn and accept the gaze.
these eyes have looked for me, but i did not believe.
these eyes watched as I ran away, because i believed no one would follow.
but i have learned to stop… to turn around…
and accept the gaze that is offered.
